An exciting new way to do alcohol and drug assessments
The DAAC Deck consists of 120 cards divided into four sections to help assess and evaluate the nature of an individual’s alcohol and/or drug problem. Clients pick out cards that relate to their alcohol or drug use.
Areas addressed by the cards are:
- Types of Substances Used
- Feelings I Get When Using
- Reasons for Using
- Effects of Using
Why use the DAAC Deck?
Helps to reduce client resistance and defensiveness
Most clients in initial intakes situations are braced for an interrogation and have their defenses up. They may even have a rehearsed narrative of what they are going to say.
Using the cards bypass this process.
Creates rapport between client and evaluator
The give and take during the card selection process creates a more congenial atmosphere. The client is not being constantly being bombarded with questions.
Makes the assessment process more interesting
Clients have a positive anticipation and curiosity of what’s coming next in the process.
Makes answering difficult questions easy
Instead of clients having to admit or verbalize answers to questions which may seem intimidating or embarrassing, all they have to do is pull out cards from The DAAC Deck.
